Motors Service and Supply was founded in 1929 by Henry G. Butzow, not exactly a banner year for starting a business. However, thus far, we have remained part of the Wausau landscape by diversifying and providing knowledgeable customer service. The business began as a machine shop at 101 Scott Street, where people could bring anything from a small lawn mower engine to an industrial diesel engine. With over 60 years combined ASE-Certified experience in rebuilding engines, we/they will rebuild almost any type of engine, even precious classics and race cars.
In the 1950’s, Henry’s son, Charles Butzow, took over the business and expanded to include auto parts, which gave dealers a place to call in and order a part and then have it delivered to their business. As the years went by, Charles retired, and Gene W. Bartelt took over as owner in 1984 after having worked there for 26 years. As soon as the transition was made, Gene introduced computers on the counter for catalog look-up. This was a huge step for many, seeing that most people didn’t know how to use a computer back then, despite that now we cannot live without them.
In the 1990’s, Gene diversified Motors Service and Supply into the auto body and paint world. Motors Service and Supply, using our PPG Platinum paint technicians, who have over 40 years combined experience working in and serving body shops, can help make the best product selection for the customer. Additionally, Motors Service and Supply is now starting to supply finishes for manufacturers to apply to their manufactured products.
As you can see, Motors Service and Supply has come a long way, and there is nothing that our specialists cannot do for their customers.
